The Utrechtse Heuvelrug is an elongated ridge in the centre of the Netherlands, stretching from Zeist to Rhenen. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug has several ‘peaks’ over 50 metres high, the highest of which stands at 69.2 metres above sea level. The ridge was formed during the penultimate Ice Age and is a striking geological phenomenon in the predominantly flat Netherlands. The area offers excellent opportunities for leisure activities such as horse riding and mountain biking. There are countless walking and cycling routes that take visitors past the ridge’s most beautiful spots and through its vast forests. By bike its a 25 minute ride, make sure to stop by "de Koppelpoort" before entering the city center.
